Swiss species condition

Where a tree species grows, and how it is doing there. Combines the 30 m Swiss species composition with the monthly vegetation condition indicator (Sentinel-2, June–August, 2017–2026).

3D overview

Colour and height

Ground colour = the dominant tree species. Bar height = distance from normal, red below and green above. One bar per 1 km cell, and a normal year is flat ground.

Reading the bars

Click a bar for its cell. Opacity fades them; at 0% only the species colours are left.

Species

One, a group (Coniferous, Broadleaf) or All. With several on, a pixel stays if any one of them clears the share.

Species share

The smallest basal-area share a species must hold for its pixel to stay on the map.

Colour = Vegetation condition

Red below that pixel’s own average, green above, white typical.

Colour = Distribution

Shaded by the species’ share instead.

Data

Composition

Basal-area fractions of 10 species groups plus Other, 30 m, from a deep-learning model over aerial imagery combined with satellite, structural, climatic and topographic data.

Condition

Sentinel-2 L2A monthly median composites, cloud-masked with QA60, SCL and Cloud Score+.
