Upload your annotated tree dataset for review. Files are validated in your browser before submission.
Contributor Benefits
Data contributors are offered co-authorship in two publications, subject to consent:
- Data manuscriptDescribes the TreeAI global database. Your data will only be published with your explicit consent.
- Methods manuscriptInvestigates deep learning approaches to individual tree species detection from aerial imagery.
These benefits apply to data call submissions. For general uploads, we would be glad to discuss how to recognise your contribution. Get in touch and we will find what fits.
Licensing
Contributors retain ownership of their data. Select the license that best fits institutional and personal requirements:
no coords Same as CC BY, but geographic coordinates are withheld from the public release.
NC-ND Open for academic use. Restricts commercial applications and modifications.
Annotated tree crowns (shapefile) with matching GeoTIFF imagery, validated in your browser.
Anything outside the data call format. Sign-in required, no validation.
Requirements
- Minimum 100 individual trees
- Option A (preferred): Polygon shapefile — one polygon per tree crown
- Option B: Point coordinates — only accepted if DBH or tree height is provided per tree
- All trees in the image should be delineated; partial delineations accepted (mention in notes)
- Attribute column named exactly
Specieswith Latin names (e.g. Picea abies) - Genus sp. for a single unknown species of a genus (e.g., Picea sp.); Genus spp. for several. We treat the two as distinct strictly. If you use spp., list the likely species in Notes below where you can

Requirements
- Format: GeoTIFF (.tif / .tiff)
- Resolution: ≤ 10 cm (~3.94 in) spatial resolution
- Band order: R → G → B → I (NIR last); RGB-only accepted
- One orthomosaic per site per year preferred; cropped plot clips accepted
- Note the acquisition date in your submission notes
- CRS: WGS 1984 UTM (projected; zone based on location)

Requirements
- Measurement date (multi-temporal datasets welcome)
- Tree metrics: DBH (cm), height (m), social status (dominant / co-dominant)
- Forest density: trees/ha, basal area/ha
- Defoliation / mortality % per tree (0 = healthy, 100 = dead)
- Environmental data: elevation, slope, aspect, climate, soil
- Extra imagery: multispectral, hyperspectral, ground panoramas, LiDAR point clouds
- Stored per submission, not per site. Name files so the site and year are clear, e.g.

Before you upload
- Data call material belongs in the data call. Tree crown annotations with imagery uploaded here are not recorded as a data call contribution, so your work may miss the credit it deserves in the papers. Please use the data call for these.
- Contributor benefits are not automatic for general uploads, as they depend on what you share. We are happy to talk this through with you, so feel free to reach out via the contact form.
- Any format. Up to 20 files per upload. More than a few files? Put them in one .zip.
- Describe what the files are and how they relate to TreeAI.
